Backwards

Tonight we did the big "block" backwards.  Which essentially means there's a nice hill about halfway through.  It wasn't so bad tonight though.  I felt like I could breathe pretty well and kept up a good pace.  I don't really know how to pace but tonight felt pretty good.  Sean says you shouldn't do crunches before running.  I wouldn't know.  I think he's a little more tired than I am tonight.  I'll credit it to the magical powers of vanilla coke.  Tomorrow won't be an early morning but kind of looking forward to seeing how it goes tomorrow.  I'm already feeling far more confident about this go around than last year. Now for some LOST. (Just one episode though.)

The "block"

I don't know who is crazier: Me who came up with the idea to go running at 5:30 in the AM or my husband who said he'd go with me.  OY! That is early.  I'm not a huge morning person, except on Saturdays (probably garage sale training) but man this morning was a kicker.  We did our little jaunt around the "block" this morning which is about a mile.  Our block is cut off by the river so it's more like a buncha blocks. I think I could have gone longer but I was done mentally.  Stopped in front of the ginormus rooster house (huge rooster, not huge house) to stretch.  I often forget how much stretching helps.  The plan is this: Every week we add another block to the routine which should add about a quarter of a mile.  We'll be up to the 3+ miles at the end of 9 weeks (which is about how much time we have before the 5k). Just in case you're wondering what's up with all the boring blogs about running?  I figure that I need to write it down and tell s...

My training thus far...

"Training" for a 5k is harder than it sounds. In all honesty I'm not training so much as trying to get my lazy body to move once in a while.  I'm no Olympian but I don't really want to be either.  So there. This morning my lovely sister watched the boys so I could jog at the track (I don't actually like taking the stroller to the track).  My original intent was to see how far I could run.  I changed my mind once I got there.  Instead I did 60/90-- 60 seconds of running followed by 90 seconds of walking. 10 sets.  OY! At first I thought "Hm...more rest time than running time--I've got this in the bag."  Not so my friends. Not so.  But I did it and that's what really matters.  That and I got a little sun too without really meaning to.  Bonus. Running will never be swimming.  I know that.  I miss swimming.  But swimming is harder to fit into the schedule.  So for now I will run.  September is our 5k and I am dete...
