2015: part deux

Image
New/Old Town Moving to the place where Sean and I met and fell in love has been fun.  We were gone long enough that there are new aspects to explore but familiar enough that it feels like home. It's also kind of fun to explain to the kids, "This is where I lived in college and we used to walk here" or "This is where Daddy lived when we were dating" while pointing to familiar places that would go overlooked in the day to day living but have a deep personal history for me.  Today (2018) I have lived here for 12 years. Chopped up a bit here and there. But that is longer than I have lived in ANY one town. So I guess it IS home. My formative years were spent in the San Joaquin Valley in California and I have deep nostalgia for my hometown . My heart will forever be on the Central California Coast . But Utah is my HOME. And it is where my kids are growing up. Making the decision to move here from Blanding was a sudden shift but it was the Next Right T...

In The Year of Our Lord

Image
Two Thousand and Fourteen Let me start off by saying it's not all roses. There will be highlights and there will be carefully selected details displayed but it's not all amazing.  2014 was a really hard year for our family. For so many reasons. And now that 4 years has passed it's hard to remember all the details- but the overarching theme of the hellacious year remains strong in my memory.  Relationships are hard. We all come to them with our own ideas and issues and baggage that we think is important and precious so we can't possibly get rid of it. Sean and I were going through a rough patch in 2013-2014. There was a lack of trust on both sides. We said things. We reacted. We cried. A lot. We smiled. We kissed. We did counseling. A lot. Rinse and repeat ad Infinitum. It was really helpful. Our first marriage counselor was awful. We gave her a second chance, just in case it was our bias that was clouding our judgment. Nope. She was a fresh outta the box ...

Ah! Ah! LOUD!

For the family reunion this year it looks like we'll be taking our monkeys to see the kids at the zoo. In honor of that (and to give us all a project-summer vacation anyone?) we're making animal shirts using mostly stuff we have on hand. (i say mostly because i had to buy freezer paper and i didn't have black paint already, but I'm sure they will come in handy door future projects as well). Ian used to say the peacocks said "ah! Ah! LOUD!" He requested a peacock tie dye shirt 3 years ago. I've spruced it up for Chollie Tortise this year. More projects to come.

Airplanes and Tutus

Image
We go together like..... ...Peanut Butter and Jelly. ...Fries and a Frosty. ...Bert and Ernie. ...Airplanes and tutus. Did that last one throw you off? Sorry.  Life of an almost 4 year old deems that airplanes and tutus do in fact belong together.  So much so that he freaks out if is airplane is missing its tutu.  It all began rather innocently. We're trying to teach the kids about money by giving them an allowance.  They pay a %10 tithe and then the rest they can spend how they choose (though Mommy tries to talk them out of buying goodies with them because Mommy already buys/makes too many goodies as it is). So what do they set their hearts on? Toys of course.  Because they don't have too many of those yet.... We were at our "local" (local being the next town over) secondhand store a few weeks ago and the boys were insistent that they NEEDED to spend their allowance.  So I let them.  They fought over who got the train.  Ian did b...

Welcome, Welcome!

Here's the project that I hinted at earlier : TA DA! I rather like it.  And guess what? I did it all with THIS: What What?! A little Heat-n-Bond, a little fabric, fonts found online and traced with window light... and wah-BAM! Wall art. Found the idea on THIS blog- check it out.  PS- I posted earlier today too.  Click HERE to see it.

Operation Boy-ish Bike Cont'd

Guess who found her camera? No it wasn't Glinda the Good Witch (besides I'd bet Elphaba takes more interesting pictures...)  ME! And it wasn't on the bar- which was a good thing because I was beginning to think I had gone a little loco. It was on the bookshelf--because the last pictures I took were of the wall arrangement I made.  First thing first. Operation Boy-ish Bike is nearing completion.  The boy is completely satisfied and had Daddy not mentioned the unfinished seat would be thrilled at the finished product.  As it stands I'm working on an idea for a seat cover.   The bell is by far his favorite feature.  He has composed a 5 note song with it and insists on riding it to Grandma's so he can ring the bell and she will know it is him.  (PS Helmet...MIA- somewhere here I think- maybe still in storage...on the "to do/find" list.) Now the reason as to where my camera was: Holy Moly- I am not so good at t...
