Paying Attention

Me: I love you Boychild: I love you more. Me: No, I love YOU more. Boychild: No. I love *YOU* more. Me: Dangit. You win. Boychild: smiles and lays his head back down on the pillow. "Goodnight, sleep tight. Don't let the bedbugs bite.  If they do take your shoe and beat them till they're orange and pink." "No, Mom! It's Black and BLUE! " "Oh sorry. Black and Blue." Snug as a bug in a rug. Snug as a train in his shed. Snug as a boy in his bed. Grandpa: See ya later Alligator. Ian: How soon Baboon? Grandpa: After while crocodile. "Mom, if the Polar Express comes tonight I'll wake Landon up so he can come too." "That's so nice of you to make sure he doesn't get left out." Charlie now signs Please, More, Sorry (though that's only in context because he's actually signing Please again) and Finished/All gone.  Landon can count to 36.  At least he shocked Ms. Melissa when he randomly co...

Who's there?

Knock Knock. Who's there? Joe. Joe Who? Joe MAMA! Now the YoMama jokes are lovely and immature and so remind me of high school. This particular joke made me cry, and not for reasons you might think. A girl I went to high school with has a sweet 5 year old son.  I have a sweet 5 year old son.  My five year old son is off to Kindergarten.  Her five year old son is off to slay the dragon of brain cancer.  Yikes.  This kid melts your heart.  He's in the middle of treatments in Tennessee and the poor boy's body is bloated and in pain and yet.....he tells his Joe Mama knock knock joke.  Brings me to my knees.  I find myself hugging my kids and expecting them less to be mature and grow up already and just be kids.  Because who knows what's coming next.  Nobody.  Yet we can still keep our wits about us and tell knock knock jokes when the going gets tough.  Thanks Cash.

Dec. Update.

Life is as it always is- crazy.  I just get tired of the same old thing on my blog so I figured you are too :) The kids are supposed to be napping. They are not. Yet. I doubt they will. It seems to be this challenge we are having lately. The kids vs. Mom. I don't feel like I've won many battles lately. But the company Christmas party is tomorrow night so there are things to look forward to.  Oh and a shower.   Which I will be accomplishing after hitting Publish. My heart is full of gratitude for my numerous blessings. This weekend we're hoping to get a decent chunk out of our house done. There is SO MUCH to do still... Currently the bathroom needs to have the ceiling sanded and all of it mudded again. Then sanded again.  Then primed. Then maybe painted and the toilet put in.  And then the sink.  Oh and a door- that would be a nice touch too. (Mind you this is just the to do list not the will-be done-Saturday list.)  And the bathtub ...

Two Truths and a Lie.

Image
Ever played before? One of these is a lie. Two are truths. Which witch is which?  #1:  Sometimes I cut my bangs because I don't have time to pluck my eyebrows before church. Scary huh?  #2: Of all my favorite accessories, scarves top the list. I have probably 17, sadly they are all in storage.  #3: I hit my stride about 4 in the afternoon.  Which is rough given that naps are well over by that time.   Need a hint?  Too Bad.   Good luck.    Here's a Pushme Pullyou to help you think... ...Oh that distracted you? Sorry.  Now back to your regularly scheduled slacking  browsing.

Re:  A Serious Lack of Blogging Dear SisterGirl,      Yes. You are right.  I haven't blogged in a while.  Sorry.  I know I even promised pictures of our epic hike.  I didn't post them.  I have one of them.  See?   (*Click on the pictures to make them bigger!) Ok, it's not even really a picture that I took.  Thanks Google Earth.  Sean drew the red line to show roughly where we hiked.  An aerial view isn't quite as impressive as a landscape view.   (My apologies to those of you who are colorblind. Red in the first one now green....oh well)  It was a wicked long hike.  6 miles maybe? Maybe 3?  I don't know.  What I DO know is we started at the top (see the ridgeline?) at roughly 7:30am.  Then proceeded DOWN a few thousand feet and a LOT of hours to Nizhoni Campground which Google tells me is 7000 feet.  If Abajo peak is 11+ thousand feet and Nizhoni Capground is 7000 f...

They Shore Do Clean Up Gud

My blog about our Epic Hike/Hunting trip won't be up until probably tomorrow.  Need to get the proof picture from Sean's phone- so you can see just how crazy we are.   Instead today you get my handsome little men.   These were taken before Church a few weeks ago.  For the record I have tried and tried and tried to get this boy to wear a bowtie.  Wouldn't do it unless it was his idea. Go figure.  And the suspenders are sweet: they belonged to his Great Grandpa Hurst and when we were sifting among his belongings after he died everyone got to choose something to remind them of Grandpa.  Ian choose the suspenders.  Couldn't have been better.  He loves them and I love him for loving his Great Grandpa.  My 3 stooges. Nyuck Nyuck Nyuck.

Ventage- not Vintage

"If you are willing to make the sacrifices it will be worth it."  That would be the answer I received when I prayed about buying our house.  About now I'm feeling like I should have asked for the term specifications on these sacrifices.  I'm worn out.  There's so much work to be done it feels like we'll never be DONE done.  At this point I can't even see the light at the end of the tunnel of done-enough-to-move-in.  I'm sick of paying for a storage unit and sick of having no idea where my things are in said storage unit.  When we packed up to move back in with my inlaws (who have been extremely gracious) I didn't bother to label much stuff because I didn't think it would be in storage long.  On the off chance that we were here when the weather changed I had the forethought to at least put all the warm clothes together.  Well- what I thought was all of them.  I got out the pile and sorted through it and there's a bu...
